Rocking and rolling (and running !!) for Mac House

Good luck to everybody taking part in the fabulous Rock n Roll festivities this coming weekend.

Our very own Wendy, Val and Carol are running the 5k on Saturday, and on Sunday we have many of our supporters running the 1/2 or full Marathon.

You really will be making a difference to Mac House, so on behalf of all our families Thank You.

If you're not running why not go along on Sunday and join our Cheer Point? We are outside McDonalds at Albert Dock, just opposite the entrance to the car park for the Arena. We will be so happy to see you, so why not join us in making lots of noise as we cheer the runners on.

If you would like to know more about the Cheer point, please give Denise a call on 0151 252 2869

Royal Birkdale and our supporters score a hole in one for Mac House !!

Once again our annual Golf Day at Royal Birkdale was a huge success.

With more teams than ever before, 26 in all, it was a full on day. The weather was kind, the venue and hospitality superb and the golf......well what can I say... it was enjoyed by all, we even had a hole in one!

Good luck Royal Birkdale as you host the British Open, who could ask for a better venue?

Thank you everybody who took part, you really did pull out all the stops to make our day a brilliant occasion. You raised an amazing amount of money for Mac House, so on behalf of all the families who have, are and will stay with us, thank you so much. See you all next year x

As the day draws to a close the full extent of the horror last night at the Manchester Arena has become so painfully stark, and here at Mac House we send our heartfelt support to the families who have lost a loved one and to all those being treated for injuries sustained in this attack.

Thinking of you all, take care of each other, from all at Mac House.

We get lots of emails here at Mac House but we especially love and appreciate emails like this one from Andrew Bagnall....

"Hi Gill, I just wanted to let you know I completed the Chester half marathon today in a time if 1hr 54mins. Between my just giving page and offline donations unofficially I have raised about £1500 but I will let you know the final total when I get all the money in. I have attached a photo of myself and Jack at the end of the race, I hope you like it.

Once again thank you for looking after myself and Monika when Jack was under the care of Alder Hey hospital and I hope the money I've raised will help other families who need a place to stay when they need it the most".

#MacHouseRunners !! We think you are amazing and so do the families who get to stay close together when it matters most, thanks to you. Very much appreciate your words and your actions Andrew, and that superb sum raised really will make a difference you can see and hear !!

Sarah & the Clegg family are supporting Mac House, here's why.

"On May 17th last year our precious little boy Theo ( teds twin) passed away aged 17months, after a very brave battle with CHD!

We spent lots of nights, weeks probably even months in Mac House.... Without Mac House our family would have been separated for long periods of time. Mac House allowed us to remain a family in our darkest hours and to be able to shower and rest whilst being just minutes away from Theo.

We are eternally grateful for this, so in Theo's memory, on 28th May, myself and my husband Peter are doing the Manchester 10k run and our children Alfie, Poppy and Ted are doing the kids 1.5k run.

We've also made and sold these Wish bracelets which all our friends and family wore today on Theo's anniversary to raise funds.."

Sarah, what a wonderful way to honour Theo's memory, thank you so much from everyone at the House that Love Built.

I recently had the privilege of being a guest of Barclays, and visited The Lord Nelson, one of the amazing Tall Ships we have been privileged to see docked in Liverpool between voyages. But as you will read, this one very Tall Ship with a difference.....

A member of Barclays staff gave us a tour, she had been on a 3 day stint, working I think, almost 24 hours a day supporting the young people on board, and doing every job needed on a ship of this magnitude.

The Lord Nelson is a vessel specially adapted, and adapted brilliantly, for people with a wide range of disabilities / impairments. Everybody on every voyage is expected, some with more encouragement than others we were told ! to do every job needed - cooking, cleaning, hoisting the sails, steering the ship, you name it, they did it.

Barclays have got behind this venture and supported it with staff to join the crew on each voyage, and we wouldn't expect anything less. Barclays are exemplary in the community and support as many charities as they can, here at Mac House we couldn't do without them. Thank you Barclays at Wavertree Tech park, especially Nicola Matthews. Thank you on behalf of all our families who reap the benefits of your Match Funding, your decorating work for us in the House, your involvement with projects, your advice and your networking. Thank you, for all your support, which a bit like the wonderful Lord Nelson, is a spectacular example of making a difference with vision and teamwork. Gill x

This is Faye. She came to Mac House to bring us a donation, money she had raised herself. Faye, now 10, has raised £213 over the last 2 years by putting her pocket money and any money she has been given away to help Mac House.

Her auntie Natalie stayed when Freddie was in hospital and although Faye never actually got to meet him, she knew how grateful her aunt was to Mac House. Having a room at the house meant Natalie could be close to Freddie during his short life, and for that reason Faye decided she wanted to say thank you.

But we want to say thank you to Faye for being so kind and thoughtful. It was an absolute pleasure to meet her and humbling and inspiring to see somebody so young being so selfless.

Thank you Faye, it was a pleasure to meet you. Gill x

Thank you to the staff at Vivio in Chester. Not only have they supported the Lewis family whilst they stayed in Mac House but they've collected toiletries and food to give to our families in much appreciated "welcome packs" and raised a fabulous £1500, AND they've a number of staff taking part in the Chester half Marathon in May !!

They love the work we do, they understand why we need Corporate supporters and they certainly are getting behind us with all kinds of help. Watch this space, there's lots more to come. Thank you Vivio, keep those photos coming as you take part in many more challenges, good luck James as you run those 13 miles, thank you for making a difference to everybody staying at Mac House.

Calling all Mac House families, friends, supporters and those we've yet to meet on the wonderful Isle of Man !!

On Wednesday and Thursday I will be on Isle of Man, meeting some of our supporters, so please come along and say hello.

On Wednesday 19th April, at either 2pm - 3pm or 7.30pm-8.30pm (whatever works best for you) myself and our House Director Wendy will be at the Welbeck Hotel, Douglas hoping to meet as many people as possible to tell them what we are doing at Ronald McDonald House, Liverpool, or "Mac House" as it is affectionately known to the thousands of families we have been able to help stay close to their child whilst they receive treatment at Alder Hey.

Please do come along to one of these sessions and find out more about Mac House, and how you can help us. We support many, many families from the island as they stay with us when their often seriously ill children are in-patients at Alder Hey, and we know there are many people we've yet to meet. It's just a cuppa and a biscuit, a chat and a meeting of likeminded people, so please do come and say hi and learn what's happening at Mac House, and why we are so grateful for the support we get from the amazing place that is the Isle of Man.

If you would like to know more please call me on 07736 469944 or email me on :
or simply add a comment to this post or a Direct Message.

Really hope to see you on Wednesday, many thanks, Gill (Fundraising Manager at Mac House)

Wow, the Easter Bunny came to Mac House and made sure everybody had an egg. In fact on Saturday, he sent his friend Paddy to the house to make sure the children staying with us, had a head start on getting some eggs.

We've had an amazing amount of eggs given to this year, people have been so very kind.

Not only have we had enough eggs for the families staying with us, we've been able to help the families get their eggs for all of their children without them having to worry about finding the time to get to the shops when really all that's on their minds is being able to stay close to their child in Alder Hey.

All of this has only been possible due to the generosity of MBNA Chester, DWP St Martins House Bootle,
the ShannonBradshaw Trust, RBS, the customers of Asda Southport,
Booker Ave Juniors PTA, Clare Prendergast, and a number of past families who always think of us at holiday times.

Thank You so much for your thoughtfulness. Thank You for your continuing support. Thank You one and all, you really have made a difference at Easter time all those families in Mac House.

Our Charity of the Year partners the Crowne Plaza Liverpool have a brilliant team who clearly enjoy helping to raise funds for Mac House and we love their enthusiasm and incredible support !! Each of their operational teams take it in turns to do some fundraising for us throughout our Charity of the Year and here's a message from one of the teams :

"Our food and beverage dept had an English Tea Party fundraiser at Crowne Plaza Hotel on Friday 7th April. We raised £175 for RMH which will pay for a room for a week 👍👍 xxx Thanks Jo"

Any of the families who have stayed with us know exactly what that week's free accommodation means. It's so important and so real you can almost touch it. Thanks to everyone at the Crowne Plaza Liverpool for your year long support it's making a difference.

Can you spare us some time between 4-7pm on Thursday April 13th at M&S Gemini Warrington ?

Great news ! We thought we'd reached the end of our staff Charity of the Year bagpacks at the wonderful M&S Gemini Warrington, but because we started the year a few weeks in, we have been given one last date where we can do our own bagpackpack and raise much needed funds for Mac House.
We need help between 4-7pm so if you have anything from an hour or so to spare on April 13th we'd love it if you could give us a call on 0151 252 5869 and ask for the fundraising team, or direct message us on this page, or add a message in the comments section below.

Cheers, Gill x

Sioned from Medela Uk Ltd handing over their very generous donation of a new breast pump for the families of Ronald Mcdonald House Liverpool worth over £1800. A big thank you from all our families and the quotes below explain how much this donation means:-

“Having a Breast Pump in Ronald MacDonald House will enable Breastfeeding Mum’s the ability to express their breastmilk throughout the night without having to walk back to the hospital, this will make such a big difference to the parents when they need it the most.  I would like to Thank Medela for their kind donation to Ronald MacDonald House on behalf of all the mum’s who breastfeed at the hospital”.  Liz Grady – Health Promotion Practitioner

“Having a breast pump in Mac House will make life that little bit easier for mums who are breastfeeding their sick children. I would like to thank Alder Hey and Mac House for putting this together – breast milk is such an important part of children’s care.”  Helen Calvert – Parent
